It is the smallest district of Nepal but rich in ancient arts and architects. Bhaktapur Durbar Square is one of the places of attraction in the Bhaktapur City, it is 15 km east of Kathmandu . Bhaktapur Durbar Square complex consists of four distinct squares: Durbar Square, Taumadhi Square, Dattatreya Square and Pottery Square. Bhaktapur Durbar was the palace of the Malla Kings of Bhaktapur, it is the gem not only of Bhaktapur but also of the entire nation. The most fascinating structure lies here is the World –Renowned 550 Windows Palace constructed by Malla King Jitamitra Malla. The 55- windows palace is the master piece of art and Architecture . There is a the world famous Golden Gate Stands just next to the 55- Windows Palace which is unparalled specimen of art dating back to 1756, it is the entrance to the marvellous 'Talju Temple'. Big Bell which was believed to be erected by Ranjit Malla who was the last king of Malla king of Bhatapur. During the Malla rules the tolling the 'Big Bell' helped in calling assemblies of the local people .Right next to it is a smaller Barking Bell that triggers respose amongst the dogs when rung.
The Nyatapola temple the five-storied pagaoda style temple dating back to 1702 AD presides over the Taumadhi Square, This temple is dedicated to Goddess siddhi Laxami. Next to Nyatapola is the rectangular shaped Bhairvnath Temple is located.
It is located towards the southwest of Taumadhi Square displays well – known potters form the city with their skills of making earthen of varies shapes and sizes. Temple of Jeth Ganesh dating back to 14th century is the major attraction.
Dattatreya Square ,the seat of royalty until the 15'th century. The area is having great numbers of historical monuments and temples. The Dattatreya Temple is constructed by King Yaksha Malla from stem a single tree is a giant three- storied temple and is the main attraction of Dattatreya Square. Towards the south-western corner of the temple lays the Bhaktapur's second Taleju Shrine which is visited by large numbers of devotees during Dashin festival.
It is masterpiece of art which is also known as the 'Mona Lisa of Nepal',it is rare masterpiece in unique wooden latticed window having an intricately carved peacock in its center dating to the early 15th century. Woodcarving museum with a rich collection of unique pieces in wood and the Brass and Bronze Museum. Narayan Temple, the two-storied structure is a unique specimen of the pagoda architecture is another place of attraction.
It is about 8 miles east of Kathmandu City and a few miles north of Bhaktapur. This ancient temple of Changu Narayan is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and an oldest temple in Nepal is located on high hilltop known as Changu or Dolagiri Surrounded by forest with Champak trees and a small village called change village lies there. This temple is the excellent example of Pagoda style of architecture. Inside the courtyard of temple, temples of other deities like Shiva, Ashta Matrike, Chinnamasta, Kileshwor and Krishna exist.
