The temple lies in the eastern part of Kathmandu city and it lies on the bank of holy river Bagmati. The temple exhibits two- tried pagoda style of architecture having cubic constructions with beautifully carved wooden rafters on which they rest. Two level roofs made up of copper with gold covering. The western door has a statue of large bull (Nadi) made of bronze. The struts under the roof dating from the late 17th century are decorated with wooden carvings of members of Shiva's family. It is one of the most celebrated Hindu Temples of Lord Shiva in the world. Thousands of devotes from within and outside the country come to pay homage to Pashupati on the occasions of Mahashivratri , Teej, New Year etc. The Pashupatinath area includes Deupatan, Gaurighat, Jayabageswori, Kutumbahal, Gausala, Pingaasthan and the area of the Shleshmantak forest. There are nearly 492 temples , chityas, sattalsect mostly build in the Pagoda style. There are also about 1000 Shivalings.
