It is another world Heritage Site located in Kathmandu. It is situated on a top of a small hill overlooking the Kathmandu Valley. It is one, of the most popular and holy shrine for Buddhists and Hindu. It has a unique feature of having 365 steps leading to the temple and according to the popular belief in 'self-created or Self Existence' hence the name 'swayambhu'. The temple is also famous as 'Monkey Temple' as the large number of monkeys are roaming and playing around the temple. It is believed to be built during the 5th century, several shrines, monasteries and idols are located around the stupa. This temple is regarded as the symbol of religious tolerance and national unity as it is the temple where both Hindu and Buddhist worship. Recently, one of the biggest Buddha statues have been built near the stupa.
